Electricity facilities

The operation of a distribution system requires a special authorisation from the authority (licence). Under certain circumstances a permit under electricity law is required for the establishment of, any changes to and the operation of an electricity generation plant. A technical operations manager is required for the operation of a distribution system.

Anyone in Styria who:

• operates a distribution network or;
• wishes to construct or operate an electricity generation installation (power generation facility) or to substantially modify an existing installation,

requires the written permission (concession or permit) from the authority.

The ‘network operator’ (electricity company operating a transmission or distribution network) must appoint an operations manager for the technical management and supervision of the network operation before commencing operations.

Note that permits and procedures under several pieces of legislation are usually required to start and carry out an activity. The information provided here may therefore only represent part of the formalities required.
